Honestly we probably would all love to have a brand new Clusterball. With state of the art graphics, a venue builder, new weapons and more players in one game. Until then we should keep the old version online

I like "Retro Style". For me it's enough the old Clusterball running on Windows, Linux, Mac.
But a better new version, with more features, running on all devices (Android, iOS) are also fine.
Therefore my vote: "a better old clusterball"

As far as the CB2 project that RI had. What I know...
*They had built a venue and where doing some testing
*They had made water effects for the game, that you can see on the trailer apparently it was well in development and there is an article about that you can find on google scholar.
*They did not manage to get the publisher who would bankroll it tho. I guess and that is my best guess, they did the VP4 and iphone releases in a bid to get the money for the development.
Then financial crash happened. Company got folded.
I think the gameplay of Clusterball is still unique. So there is still commercial potential to develope a state of the art Clusterball version. It was never easier to develope games with game engine and sell them on Steam or some other platforms.
It is also thinkable to make a full conversion via scripting with an existing game engine.
However it needs manpower and knowledge to do that. Things don't happen on their own. I tried to work myself into lua scripting around 2010 to make a full conversion with the CryEngine wich was state of the art at that time. I gave up because of the lack of tutorials for that.
A project like this is not a one man show, you need software developers, graphic designers etc.
But there is also the alternative to suggest that idea to a existing game developer company...
